Samsung DeX: Your Galaxy Phone can do more, but there’s a catch.

Many people hold Samsung phones that support Samsung DeX but have failed to utilize their full potential. Video conferencing is the new norm: everyone is at home, everyone wants to use that one laptop to login to Zoom or Skype. The good news is that you can use your TV or monitor and enjoy that webinar about COVID-19 or attend an audit meeting from your home without interrupting the children doing their homework online using your laptop – and vice versa.

In today’s article, we explore the unchartered territories of your Samsung Galaxy phone: you will start using it for more than making phone calls, watching YouTube movies, and reading Medscape or UpToDate – your Galaxy Phone can do more, but there’s a catch.

The novel coronavirus pandemic has changed the way we interact with our environment – the macro- and microscopic environment, this involves the way we use the technology that we love so much that we practically cannot live without it.

Samsung DeX brings work home.

Samsung DeX is a service that provides a desktop-like experience environment when you connect a mobile device (e.g. smartphone or tablet) to an external display device (e.g. TV, monitor, or PC).

You can enjoy all the tasks you used to perform on your smartphone’s touch screen on a big screen instead, by connecting a keyboard and a mouse.

The Samsung Galaxy phones that are compatible with Samsung DeX include Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, Galaxy S8 Active, Galaxy Note8, Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+, Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10 5G, Galaxy S10+, Galaxy S10e, Galaxy Note10, Galaxy Note10+, Galaxy Note10 5G, Galaxy Note10+ 5G, Galaxy A90 5G, Galaxy Fold, Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, Galaxy S20Ultra 5G, Galaxy Note20, and Note20Utra*.

There are a few Galaxy tablets compatible with Samsung DeX. These include Galaxy Tab S4, Galaxy Tab S5e, Galaxy Tab ActivePro, Galaxy Tab S6, S7, and S7+*.

The catch here is the fact that you need to buy an accessory to use DeX. It can be either a DeX station, DeX Pad, or an HDMI adaptor. In the newer phones like the Galaxy S10 and Note10 series, you can connect your smartphone to a PC using a USB Type-C cable. Otherwise, you will use the former accessories to connect your smartphone to either your TV or monitor and enjoy that Zoom meeting on a large screen in the comfort of a chair.

Bring your office, home, and seamlessly go between the two. You can pick up from where you left with the Microsoft Office suite on DeX. As we’ve mentioned earlier, see your colleagues better with video conferencing on a large display, without sacrificing the online learning processes your children or significant other is going through using your laptop – or even stopping their eye-catching game.

Don’t have a smart TV? – Your entertainment can be upgraded by playing and watching on a big screen. Pull up your favourite mobile games or stream the big game to see even more of the action.

Are you an ‘essential’ worker and an artist? – You can sketch and take photos of those mouth-watering specimens with your phone. However, full-scale drawing and design are better in a big-screen environment. So, when you get to your table, check the details and make edits with Samsung DeX.

Leave the laptop to the rest of the people at home, browse the web PC-style. You can switch from watching TV to surfing the internet with on-the-go. Plug your phone to shop online at Jumia or Amazon, read the news, or watch YouTube as if you’re on a computer.

You can do more with your Galaxy phone by utilizing the extra Samsung DeX feature during the period when working at home has not only become the new norm, fewer screens exist at home to be used by everyone. Change your TV and the sitting room into a conference room without sacrificing those using your laptop to execute other duties.
Stay at home and save lives.

*The Galaxy Note20Ultra and Galaxy Tab S7+ will connect to your smart TV seamlessly to launch and use DeX wirelessly: No adapter or cables needed.
